Hikes and Tours

With its high elevation and rugged landscape, Rose Hall has some of the most stunning views in the country.  From our mountain tops, on a clear day you will have a perfect vantage point to see Saint Lucia to the north, the Cumberland Bay to the south, and Mount Saint Andrews Tower near Kingstown.

Come walk in the footsteps of our ancestors!  Our historic trails are built on the original footpaths from the Garifuna and slaves, but have been recently widened with steps and drainage.  Our guides will show you all of the best vistas, take you to the historical sites, like an abandoned sugar mill and waterfall, will point out the flora and fauna and tell of their historic medicinal uses, and much more!

Come and see for yourself by scheduling one of our hikes!

Degro Trail

Difficulty Level:  Moderate

Distance:  2 miles/3 km

The Degro Trail was once a narrow footpath used by villagers walking to the arrowroot factory to process their crops.  It has since become overgrown, with rocky ledges and steep inclines.  Our work began on the 14th of September 2023, to conserve the path and transform it into a beautiful, forested walk with a wide trail, steps to ease the steepness, drainage channels to keep water erosion to a minimum, and plantings of vetiver grass to keep the soil in tack.  These measures will help ensure the trail’s use for now and future generations.

The two-mile roundtrip hike will lead you past the old arrowroot factory and the Mann waterfall, to an overlook where you will get a beautiful vista of Rose Hall Village.  Turn around at the overlook and enjoy a refreshing break at the gazebo near the waterfall.

Planting Wharf

Difficulty Level:  Moderate - mostly downhill

Distance:  1.75 (one way)

The Planting Wharf Trail is also an important historic footpath.  Farmers would use this path to take their produce from their farms to the wharf where it would be taken to other parts of the country for sale.  Clearing of began in 2024 and it is now accessible and sustainable with wider paths and steps in place to aid in footing on the steeper areas.

This path is 1.75 miles point-to-point begins at the Zion Way Cultural Center and leads to the Long Line road.  Our guide can arrange to transport you back up to Rose Hall, or if you are still feeling strong, can walk you back up the hill past the animal breeding center or on the Grey Trail, which overlooks the Cumberland nature area.

Full 360° Hike

This hike will cover the whole ridgeline and will show you all of the historic sites and vistas.  Your journey will begin at the Zion Way Cultural Center which offers a full panoramic view.  From there, you will travel around the ridgeline and see the relics of a sugar cane processing plant and an arrowroot factory.  Our guides will share the area's history and point out all of the significant flora and fauna.  Pack a lunch to enjoy while resting at the Mann Waterfall!
